UCLA basketball coach John Wooden once said, “Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail.” I have lived this nightmare many times in school. For 9th grade one of my goals is not to procrastinate and get my work done early.

My name is Elliot O and I am a freshman in high school. The first two weeks of high school have been crazy, but I have already established a few goals I would like to accomplish for my 9th grade year.

My first goal is all about school. I’m hoping to obtain a 3.5 GPA or higher for freshman year, and the rest of my time at Foothill. I was shocked at the amount of work the first week of school so I need to get ready for a long year. Also, I would like to improve my note taking and writing ability. My teachers in the past have said I need to push myself more and I could write great things. I would like to see if they were right or not. Lastly, I’m hoping to never see what the inside of the principal's office looks like.

My goals with friends are to make new ones as much as I can. I already have met some great people and am hoping to keep doing the same. Most of my friends made choice of going to VHS or BHS as I made the right choice of coming to this school. I am hoping to stay in touch with them as best I can. I also don’t want to make any enemies, whether it be students or teachers. I had one too many in middle school.

My last goals as a freshman have to do with life outside of school. First, sports. I don’t do the traditional sports of football, baseball or soccer, I ride motocross and BMX. I want to improve in those and stay uninjured as much as possible. I already started the year with a cracked knee cap. I also want to keep my fitness up. I am glad to have my Mavericks membership so I can go to the gym all the time. Last, I would like to get some kind of a job so I can get some money!

My plans for freshman year are crazy but I know it will be an experience to remember.
